Loneliness

Isolation, boredom. These factors turn time into agony. For many seniors, this is everyday life.

One in Three

18.6 million senior citizens suffer from social isolation.

Like other vulnerable older persons, they tend to be invisible.

The research project ZEIT consists of a conglomerate of different institutions and companies and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. ZEIT is an acronym that translates to: “Experience together, participate immersively.”

Connecting in virtual spaces

ZEIT is researching on how to build strong connections using VR, thereby bridging both the physical distance and the gap between generations.

User Centered

All developed prototypes are tested within elder care centers, and regular feedback is acquired through interviews and user tests.

Figuring out the scale of dimension between sphere and station

Sphere represents VR-Object, allows for intuitive 360° rotation.

Notification

Upon receiving a message, the passive LED starts to glow and blink slowly.
A Silicone foot avoids the station to move or slide on the table.
Nudges on the inner surface of the station help to twist the sphere.

Use

Twisting the sphere inside the station will select the shown VR object
